Any more comments? Thanks for all the great info. When I lived in Northern Ontario (many moons ago) my Dad & I would visit a Cree lady & her Russian husband who lived in a cabin in the bush. I remembered wonderful stories she used to tell me about Chief Big Bear - her parents & grandparents knew him & had travelled with him. I decided he deserves more recognization in the annuals of Cdn. history, thus am doing a paper, hopefully to be published in a magazine.

Found your site while looking for information for an exhibition review I must write for my North American Native Art Course. The Winnipeg Art Gallery is presenting "Rielisms", a collection of visual representations of 10 Canadian artists who are from various ethnic backgrounds. It's very interesting to see how the image of Louis Riel has been manipulated and used for various purposes by those who tend to forget his role in history and his intentions as compared with those who are stakeholders in that history. Well worth taking a long look!
