Diary of a 10 Year Old Boy
There is a tendency to idealize small town life, the 1950's,
and the carefree life of pre-teens.
This diary takes a close look at the reality of it all, and tells us
about life before the effects of television.
January 22, 1954 I got this book. [a five year diary] It was in the Eaton’s catalogue. It was really for sale at $1.50. But I got it at $.98.
Jan. 23 We spent the hole afternoon outside throwing snowballs at cars and then jumping off the garage.
Jan. 24 I dressed warm, with lots and lots of clothes on, and went tobogganing.
Jan. 25 I went to the show called "War Of The Worlds.
Jan. 26 I began making my little ten cent airplane.
Jan. 31 The snow was good for snowballs. First we had a fight with Gean M. Then we went over to the Y and had a fight between us and them.
Feb. 1 In the afternoon we through snowballs at girls.
Feb. 2 It was Bruce's Birthday and did he ever like the candle on the cake. We had lots of fun.
Feb. 4 After school, we fooled around throwing snowballs at girls.
Feb. 5 We didn’t do much but dammed up the water in the streets.
Feb. 6 We took some botles down town in the afternoon. After supper I listend to Hockey Night In Canada. Feb. 7 At night, Wayne and Dad went to church at
7:30. Mom and I stayed home to listen to People Are Funny. Feb. 8 We started to play marbles. Feb. 9 In the morning, I went to school and came
home losers 2, in the afternoon, I came home winners 24 marbles. Feb. 14 It was valentimes day and we didn't know what to do. We finaly thought of going skating. So we went skating. Feb. 17 We started working on boxes.
